BVC August Newsletter
The BVC Is At The Olympics!
BVC cyclist Maggie-Coles Lyster will be racing the team pursuit alongside other BC athletes including Erin Atwell and Sara Van Dam at the Paris Olympics this month. Additionally, BVC cyclists Fiona Majendie & Sean Richardson will be standing in as alternates for the women’s and men’s team pursuit events respectively. If you’d like to cheer on these athletes alongside us you can view the schedule at the link below to ensure you don’t miss it when it starts on August 5th.
We Want To Hear From You!
Last month’s newsletter kicked off a bi-monthly sports science blog series hosted by Richard Normand with an article on wearable temperature sensors. But we want to hear from you about what sports science related topics you want to read about. Click the link below to share your thoughts.
AGM This September
Our Annual General Meeting is already happening next month! While an official notice will be going out in a couple of weeks, now is the time to start thinking about whether you’d like to step up to support the BVC as a board member. The Burnaby Velodrome is a club, and it is volunteers like our board members who make sure the lights stay on and our wheels can keep spinning.
There will be several board positions opening up so if you’re interested make sure to stay tuned for the official announcement email with all the associated details coming to your inbox in a few weeks from now.
Local-ish Track Races Happening This Month!
Like last month, there are a bunch of exciting races happening at nearby velodromes over the next few weeks. The Greater Victoria Velodrome Association in Victoria, BC is hosting TrackFest 2 with racing all weekend long August 16-18th. Then just across the border at the Jerry Baker Velodrome in Redmond, Washington there’s $630 in prize money up for grabs at Fred’s Race on August 23-24th.
That’s all for now, see you next month!
