2022 Update – Celebrating 25 Years
Welcome to 2022! We hope you had an excellent holiday season so far. We miss you already and look forward to an incredible year.
2022 marks the Burnaby Velodrome Club’s 25th year in operation! From our humble beginnings as a passion project to becoming the home for world-class athletes, the past 25 years have been nothing short of incredible. They say nothing in life that is worth anything is easy, which must mean the velodrome is priceless! As the longest operating indoor velodrome in North America, it is time to celebrate and look to our future. Stay tuned for the silver anniversary BVC kit, events, and programming, as we strive to make 2022 one of our most memorable years ever.

Programming Changes
A group of volunteers from our membership met a few times in December to discuss our programming and possible changes. The following were taken into consideration:
- Consistent long-term athlete development programs for youth and adults
- Supporting our Members that do not race to ensure they get access to the velodrome and coaching
- Providing sufficient coached sessions for higher intensity and race-focused members
- Maintaining time for high-performance athletes to get access to the velodrome to excel
- Ensuring that new and existing power-based athletes (non-endurance) get increased options for events and training
As a result of the discussions, we are excited to announce the following changes for the Winter 2022 season:
- Wednesday Nights
- Intermediate Workout caters to Intermediate, Novice, and Sportif (non-racer) riders
- The Intermediate Workout will focus on progressive intensity workouts to develop riders that are competitive and racing in Novice and C categories. The Sportif part of the workout will focus on fitness building and skill development, so you are ready to hit the road in the spring.
- Advanced Workouts (A and B riders) will be race-focused for both endurance and team pursuit events.
- The Intermediate, Sportif, and Novice Workout cannot be attended by Advanced Workout riders; regardless of schedule. Exceptions apply to those coaching from the bike.
