December Happenings at the Burnaby Velodrome Club
Oh wow. It’s the season of giving and the Burnaby Velodrome Club couldn’t help itself in providing all kinds of programming for our members this month. We know it’s a busy time of the year with many holiday festivities, so we’ve made sure there’s lots of options throughout the weeks for members to get in workouts, clinics, extra racing nights and maybe most importantly a special night of racing that donates all proceeds to the Burnaby Food Bank!
So what’s happening this month?
Friday Night Racing
We get to watch Jay Delaney and Sage Deluce battle each other the top step of the A racers in the Friday Night Fall Series, though the tight fight for Third on the podium is only a few points spread between three riders! In the B’s Uli Mayer is looking to upset Michael ‘the Kaiser’ Wegner for the top spot with Paul Moffat on their wheel fighting for a chance at the title. In the C group, Ian Melhado is ahead by 14 points, with Timon Glaesser and Jay Shapka in 2nd and 3rd. Our Series Finale is also on Friday the 13th which is also pretty cool. Check out the current results of the Fall Series here.
While we’re talking about Friday Night Racing, after our series Finale, we have two more nights of racing! One is a Special Bonus night of racing between Boxing Day and New Year’s (Friday the 27th), the other is the Volunteer-Run Krampus Christmas Challenge on Friday the 20th. Racing for the Krampus Challenge is 25$ with no race passes, all entry fees collected will go directly to the Burnaby Food Bank. The Krampus Challenge will also have a Christmas Crawl (AKA the Marymoore Crawl) with a separate $5 entry, with a winner-take-all prize.
Madison Clinics
December is the last month approaching the Western Challenge in January! If you want to race the Madison during the Cycling Canada Sanctioned event, we have Madison Clinics Tuesday December 3rd, 10th and 17th. The clinics are a great refresher if you’ve done Madisons before, but are required if you have no experience. For more information on the Madison Clinics, see our post about them. (Bonus! Regardless of your Madison experience, the clinics are still a good workout!)
Learn to Ride
If you’re new the Track Cycling, why not give yourself the experience and skills needed to ride the velodrome? We’ve added extra Learn to Ride sessions throughout the month, see the Learn to Ride page for a full schedule and links to register for the best indoor cycling in the Lower Mainland.
Wednesday Night Workouts
On top of all the special features this month, despite a few days where the facility is closed for Holidays there’s still more! Our regular programming, open track and Wednesday Night Workouts are still in full swing. As well, Wednesday nights this month are part of Coach Brendan Cowley’s awesome buildup plan to the Western Challenge. Racing fitness and skills focused workouts to have you at your best when we welcome riders from all over for the Cycling Canada sanctioned event.
So even if your December is jam-packed during the Holidays, we’re sure that there is an opportunity to ride the boards this December and keep yourself sharp for the Western Challenge and the approaching road season!
