March 18th race report and results
We want to say thank you to everyone who participated in our first spring race of the season. We tried a brand new event for our track. The event combines motor pacing, and taking laps in a race environment. Our next race event is happening April 22nd at 7pm. Continue reading for a full recap of the event and results.
-Motor bike rides at 40kph for 1 hour
-Each time a rider gains one lap on the field they receive one point- rider with the most points wins
-You can spend as much time on the track as you wish. Taking a break does not give you any penalty but the time you are not on the track your competitors can score and gain laps.
This event challenged even the most seasoned racers. Adam Reddy and Galen Kehler pushed themselves to a significant advantage over everyone else. They were tied up early on in the race and the lead went back and forth. Adam took his break first giving Galen a small lead. Adam immediately bounced back and worked to take those laps back as Galen took his break. Both riders pushed themselves to the end to take an amazing 33 laps for Galen and 30 laps for Adam.
Our next two competitors in the B field battled to the very last lap! Early on both Kane Tchir and Maggie Coles-Lyster made smart moves to put themselves up on the leader board. Both riders took breaks and were tied up in the final 15 minutes of the race. Neither one budged an inch riding all the way to the end. They were both less than half a lap away from taking a final 19th lap. Ms. Coles-Lyster was ahead of Kane as they crossed the line so she was awarded the 1st place in the B group.
The C group was a very tight race that pushed the riders to their limits. Some chose to be on the motor longer and take laps when feeling it. One rider chose a different tactic by using the rest to his advantage. Sammy Burnett aka Joe from survivor took top honours with 5 points. Right on his tail was Kaitlin Wood taking 3 points in second. Tied on 2 points was Atilla Avsar and Joe Donahugh for 3rd place. Kaitlin Wood also put those points to work winning the C women’s race just ahead of Jennifer Killam the winner of both our fall and winter series overall.
We only had one rider stay on the bike for the entire duration. Joe Donahugh spent the entire hour on the track.
